The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) represents a significant shift in the way disability services are provided in Australia. It offers a personalised and flexible approach, ensuring that individuals with disabilities receive the support they need. The NDIS is a government initiative launched to provide support to Australians with disability, their families, and carers. It is designed to give individuals more choice and control over the support they receive, fostering greater independence and well-being. The NDIS emerged from a need to replace the previous one-size-fits-all approach with a system that recognises the unique needs of each person. Its development was a response to the growing demand for a more inclusive and effective disability support system. With the NDIS, Australia?s approach to disability services has evolved to emphasise empowerment and inclusivity. The NDIS plays a crucial role in this transformation, aiming to provide equitable and effective support to those in need.
The NDIS covers a wide range of supports, including assistance with daily living, home and living supports, social and community participation, education, employment and overall well-being of individuals with disabilities including mental health support. It is designed to be comprehensive, catering to the varied needs of its participants. Navigating the NDIS involves several key steps, from understanding eligibility to creating and implementing a personalised plan. Eligibility for the NDIS is based on age, residency, and the nature and permanency of the disability. Understanding these criteria is the first step in accessing the scheme?s benefits. Applicants must be between the ages of 9 and 65 years. They must be Australian citizens, permanent residents, or hold a Protected Special Category Visa.

The individual must have a permanent and significant disability that affects their ability to participate in everyday activities. The planning and assessment phase is crucial in tailoring the NDIS to an individual?s needs. It involves detailed discussions to ensure that the support provided is both appropriate and effective. Once an NDIS plan is approved, the focus shifts to implementation, where services and supports are accessed to improve the participant?s quality

of life. Regular reviews ensure that the plan remains aligned with the changing needs of the participant, highlighting the scheme?s adaptability and participant-focused nature.
Choosing the right service provider is critical in the NDIS journey as they play a significant role in delivering the services and supports outlined in NDIS plans. Aastha Community Services is an NDIS service provider and we believe that everyone has the right to live independently and with dignity. The team at Aastha works tirelessly to ensure that our participants receive the highest quality care and support, enabling them to achieve their goals and participate fully in their communities. The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a significant social reform in Australia aimed at providing support and services to people with permanent and significant disabilities. The introduction of NDIS represents a fundamental shift in the way disability services are funded and delivered. The NDIS operates through collaboration with various stakeholders—participants, families, service providers, and the community at large. The core principle of the NDIS is to provide individuals with disabilities greater choice and control over the support they receive. It functions on a person-centered approach, tailoring support plans to meet the specific needs and goals of each participant.
Individualised NDIS support plans, developed in consultation with participants, facilitate access to a range of support and services that enable individuals with disabilities to actively engage in their communities. Through these support and services, the scheme focuses on building individual capacities through skill development. This empowers participants to gain independence, confidence, and the ability to engage meaningfully in various social settings. Core supports funded by the NDIS such as Assistance with Daily Life, Assistance with Social and Community Participation, Transport and Assistive Technology as well as various capacity building supports funded by the NDIS are examples of this. These NDIS-funded supports equip individuals with disabilities to actively participate in their communities with ease and confidence.
Aastha Community Services is committed to fostering independence, enhancing the capabilities of our participants and facilitating their seamless integration into the community through NDIS support and services. At Aastha, we focus on you. Our tailored services are designed to empower your unique journey, from daily activities to community involvement. With a dedicated team and a commitment to your goals, we ensure a stress-free experience in navigating the NDIS landscape. Contact us today to learn more about how we can help you.

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) in Australia has been a pivotal step forward in supporting individuals with disabilities, empowering them with access to necessary support and services. Short Term Accommodation, including respite, is one of the many home and living support options available to people with disabilities through NDIS funding. STA offers temporary accommodation solutions for individuals with disabilities, aiming to provide relief, support, and care in situations where their usual carers are unavailable. The NDIS provides support for a maximum of 28 days of Short-Term Accommodation annually. This allocation offers flexibility, allowing participants to use it as either a continuous block of up to 14 days or as periodic weekend stays each month.
To access STA funding in your NDIS plan, it must fulfil the NDIS funding criteria. STA funding is only allocated if the need for temporary accommodation is directly related to the participant’s disability support requirements. The stay in STA or respite facilities should align with the participant’s goals, aiming to foster independence, skill development, or support for the caregiver. According to the NDIS funding criteria, STA services should also contribute to the participant’s community participation, facilitating social interaction and skill-building opportunities. Most importantly, STA support should be value for money by providing long-term benefits and not intended for holiday purposes. Participants can use their Core Supports budget to access STA support. They can reach out to their support coordinator, local area coordinator, early childhood partner or planner if they would like to access STA support.
Aastha Community Services offer Short Term Accommodation services for eligible participants. We prioritise quality care, flexibility, and tailored support to ensure a comfortable and enriching stay for our participants. Through our STA services, we focus on fostering independence, skill development, and community engagement for every participant. Contact us today to know more.

Supported Independent Living (SIL), funded by the National Disability Insurance Scheme, is dedicated to assisting individuals with disabilities in their homes, typically in shared accommodations with other NDIS participants. Its primary goal is to provide personalised support and supervision for daily tasks, allowing individuals to live as independently as possible while developing their essential life skills. Suburban cities like Canning Vale in Australia boast a diverse range of SIL homes, from shared living spaces to individual residences. While SIL provides essential support, it is important to note that it doesn’t cover the cost of accommodation. SIL primarily focuses on the provision of personalised support services within the participant’s existing home or place of residence.
Participants with SIL funding in their NDIS plan can search for a reliable service provider or seek the help of a support coordinator to access the benefits of SIL. Once the participant selects a SIL service provider, the provider will This roster is a comprehensive outline used by SIL providers to assess and determine the necessary supports tailored to the participant’s specific needs. It is a detailed roadmap that assists providers in calculating the

precise funding required for the participant’s SIL supports. Once the participant approves the roster of care, they can utilise their SIL funding in the best way possible with the help of their SIL service provider. Choosing SIL support is a significant step towards independence and

skill development. It is a journey that not only offers a safe and supported living space but also fosters community engagement and personal growth.
Aastha Community Services (ACS) is a registered NDIS SIL service provider. We ensure person-to-person supports, ensuring individuals receive direct, tailored assistance aligned with their unique needs and goals. We have a team of trained and qualified SIL support workers who can ease your journey towards independence. Contact us today to know more.
